DETAILS

The Memphis Slim house is the award winning reconstruction of famed musician John Chatman’s, AKA Memphis Slim’s, home featuring a light-weight wood and CFS frame, and deep cantilevered awning roof over the front porch that also doubles as a stage. The house had been in a steady state of deterioration since Memphis Slim’s death in 1988, undermining the entire structure and necessitating complete demolition and reconstruction. Every effort was made to salvage as much of the building as possible to be incorporated into the reconstruction. Old wall studs became interior cladding and foundation brick was reborn as a new fireplace. All structural members were reconstructed with new material.
