DETAILS
This three story, 40,000 sq ft, composite steel frame classroom building opened in 2017. The lateral force resisting system consists of Buckling Restrained Braced Frames. {BL-Insert BRB benefits}
Structural steel framing, composite concrete & steel floors, cold-formed steel curtain wall, and roof bar-joists were used to enhance the design and maximize economy.
A complex system of brick ledges allows the interweaving of curtain wall and brick veneer allows the architect to create a unique facade that blends traditional and modern elements.
Steel connections in the two stairwells are exposed to view, and we worked with the architect to design them to aesthetically enhance the spaces. Creatively deploying the Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel (AESS) specification allowed us to enhance the steel appearance while staying mindful of the added cost of this refinement.
